Nutty conspiracy theorists are at it again

A WACKY conspiracy theorist says apocalyptic storms and earthquakes will soon engulf Earth following a close encounter with the mysterious Planet Nibiru.
Gordon James Gianninoto, who among other dubious claims reckons he’s made contact with aliens, says the doomsday flyby will wipe out 90% of humanity within an hour.
That’s because it’ll cause Earth’s poles to swap, sending our planet’s weather systems haywire and triggering a global catastrophe, he claims.
Gianninoto, a fisherman and radio presenter based in the US state of Maine, made the comments on conspiracy radio station Coast to Coast AM.
He claimed Nibiru, a mysterious planet that Nasa asserts doesn’t exist, will soon trigger the apocalypse when it swings within 15million miles of our planet.
Gianninoto said: “What’s gonna happen at first, is we’re going to have increasing earthquakes, volcanoes, tidal surges, bigger storms.
“We’re going to have all kinds of things like that and the pace is going to pick up to the point where the governments cannot rescue anybody. You are on your own and you’re going to see that happen.
“Right before, when finally Planet X moves far enough away from the Sun that everyone on Earth looks up and goes ‘oh my God how could it have gotten there and they never told us? How? Who’s been lying to us?’
“When that happens, that day – mark it on your calendar – because it’s 49 days to a pole shift.”
Nibiru has been the subject of doomsday conspiracy theories for decades, with many crackpots believing it to be the missing tenth planet in our solar system.
They say the unseen world’s orbit will one day take it dangerously close to Earth – though scientists have never found proof it even exists.
When Nibiru does finally appear, a switch of Earth’s magnetic poles will cause the oceans to rise dramatically, according to Gianninoto.
He reckons they’ll reach as high as 213 metres – but provided no evidence for his claims.
Nasa categorically denies that Nibiru, also known as Planet X, exists, and has dismissed theories about it as baseless online hoaxes.
Nasa’s Dr David Morrison said: “There is no credible evidence whatever for the existence of Nibiru. There are no pictures, no tracking, no astronomical observations.
“I can quite specifically say how we know Planet X or Nibiru does not exist and does not threaten the Earth.
“Firstly, if there was a planet headed into the inner solar system that was going to come close to the Earth, it would already be inside the orbit of Mars, it would be bright, it would be easily visible to the naked eye – if it was up there it would be easy to see it, all of us could see it.
“The crazy thing is, people say they are observing it, but never tell us where to look so we can verify it.
“It doesn’t take an astronomer to tell us there is no bright object up there that appears in the night sky and is heading for Earth.”
It’s not the first time conspiracy nuts have claimed Nibiru will bring an end to our planet.
Earlier this month, Christian doomsday monger David Meade said Nibiru would destroy our planet on April 23 – an outrageous claim that clearly never came to fruition.
Similar predictions were made online in January by a pair of crackpot preachers.
