RE-POSTED WITH LOTS OF AMAZING INSTRUCTIONS, RECIPES AND METHODS TO MAKE PRODUCTS AS WELL AS HEALTH-PROMOTING USES!
Make your own Thieve’s Oil for protection against the COVID-19 Coronavirus! This essential oil blend was used by robbers and clergy alike on their masks, scarves, gloves and clothing as they handled the sick, dying and dead during the Black Plague in the medieval ages.
You can simply look at the images and make it for yourself, or choose from one of the four recipes below. Once the blend is mixed in the bottle, dilute it 1:4 with a carrier oil (I like to use cold-pressed almond oil in my blends), and that is the standard mixture you pay quite a bit more for pre-blended.
Put it on masks, bandannas, scarves, clothing, gloves, in sprays, laundry, all cleaning and protect yourself from the Coronavirus COVID-19. A little goes a long way. (Jamie told me after we were married that he used to say that to himself as he rode his bicycle home up the hill.)

BACKSTORY: THIEVE’S OIL HAS A LONG AND ILLUSTRIOUS HISTORY
There is an account of the Thieves Story recorded in the Royal English Archives, who
were were actually merchant traders who imported spices, including cinnamon and clove,
from India. When the Black Plague afflicted medeival Europe, all international
shipping and trade was closed down (sound familiar?). Unable to do business, these
spice traders quickly ran out of money and had to find a way to support themselves.
Since people in the communities were afraid to touch the dead bodies, they decided to
loot the homes – and bodies – of the plague victims. They took jewelry, clothing,
footwear, household items, pots and pans, livestock and saddlery, and then traded
their booty for food and money. They believed they wouldn’t get sick if they rubbed
vinegar, oils, and certain spices all over their bodies. They set up a very lucrative
business enterprise. So successful that the king found out, and upon hearing about the
success of these thieves, he wanted to know the secret recipe of the mixture they used
to protect themselves from the contagion with. He sent his constables out to capture
them. Four of the thieves were caught and brought before the king. He gave them a
choice to either share their secret formula of “immunity” or be burned at the stake.
The four thieves decided to share their secret formula with the king, who immediately
posted the thieves secret formula all over the town. This is the background of
Thieve’s Oil. (A paraphrase of the story recorded in the Royal English Archives.)
Proven effective against pestilence by supporting healthy immune and respiratory
function, disease and preventing death over the centuries, therefore, Thieves oil is a
non-proprietary blend of a blend made with Cinnamon, Clove, Eucalyptus Radiata,
Rosemary and Lemon essential oils in specific proportions, with natural aromatherapy
benefits. Its benefits include increased immune function and both preventing as well
as treating infections. Thieve’s Oil can be made into an immune-supporting essential
oil spray that can be used to clean surfaces and hands on-the-go or at home.
The amounts of each oil may vary, but the benefits of the oils used are substantial.
Research conducted by Weber State University in 1997 found that thieves oil blend
killed 99 percent of airborne bacteria when used in room diffusers.
I RECOMMEND THE THERAPEUTIC GRADE ESSENTIAL OILS LINKED ABOVE
When making Thieve’s Oil at home be sure to use only therapeutic grade essential oils
of reputable name and source. Using essential oils from a trustworthy source is so
important for your family’s health and well being. Your skin is permeable, and what
you put on it quickly enters the bloodstream in milliseconds. Up to 98% of essential
oils on the market are perfume grade, not therapeutic grade, and potentially contain
dangerous toxins. An organic labelling does not assure therapeutic grade: it can be
formulated with one or more organic souces and still be diluted with harmful
I provide four Thieve’s Oil recipes for you below, and for the purposes of this DIY
tutorial, have prepared the third version in the list.
Have on hand dark glass bottles (you can re-use the essential oil bottles you just
emptied without rinsing them) with lids, and a larger bottle to mix the batch in. I
used a glass oil bottle which, although clear, is only for mixing purposes, not
storage. Also have a carrier oil for diluting the Thieve’s Oil you make. I use cold-
pressed organic non-GMO almond oil, but you can use grapeseed, olive, and coconut oil
as well. Carrier oils include almond, fractionated coconut, apricot, grapeseed,
jojoba, amla, hemp, olive, and sesame. Always choose an organic, non-GMO cold-pressed,
hexane-free oil. Of course, vegetable oils including soybean, cottonseed, rapeseed are
always to be avoided, as they are harmful to health.
HERE ARE THE FOUR RECIPES, ALL VARIATIONS OF THE FIVE OILS
40 drops Clove Essential Oil (Syzgium aromaticum)
35 drops Lemon Essential Oil (Citrus Limon)
20 drops Cinnamon Essential Oil (Cinnamomum verum)
15 drops Eucalyptus Essential Oil (Eucalyptus radiata)
10 drops Rosemary Essential Oil (Rosmarinus officinalis)
Thieve’s Oil Recipe #2
200 drops Clove Essential Oil (Syzgium aromaticum)
175 drops Lemon Essential Oil (Citrus Limon)
100 drops Cinnamon Essential Oil (Cinnamomum verum)
75 drops Eucalyptus Essential Oil (Eucalyptus radiata)
50 drops Rosemary Essential Oil (Rosmarinus officinalis)
Thieve’s Oil Recipe #3
1 TBS Clove Essential Oil (Syzgium aromaticum)
1 TBS Lemon Essential Oil (Citrus Limon)
2-1/2 tsp Cinnamon Essential Oil (Cinnamomum verum)
2 tsp Eucalyptus Essential Oil (Eucalyptus radiata)
2 tsp Rosemary Essential Oil (Rosmarinus officinalis)
Thieve’s Oil Recipe #4
2 tsp Clove Essential Oil (Syzgium aromaticum)
1-1/2 tsp Lemon Essential Oil (Citrus Limon)
1 tsp Cinnamon Essential Oil (Cinnamomum verum)
3/4 tsp Eucalyptus Essential Oil (Eucalyptus radiata)
1/2 tsp Rosemary Essential Oil (Rosmarinus officinalis)
Whichever one you choose to make, and I suggest you start with the first, if you have
only a small amount of oils, after blended, then dilute in a 1:4 ratio with the
carrier oil. For example, 1 teaspoon (tsp) of Thieve’s Oil to 4 tsp of carrier oil.
*Note: One 15 ml bottle of essential oil contains approximately 285 drops and one 5 ml
bottle contains approximately 85 drops.
Store away from sunlight in a sealed, dark bottle, box or cabinet, preferably in a
cool location. Keep out of reach of children. Avoid touching the eye membranes
directly with undiluted Thieve’s Oil blend – don’t rub. If you have ever touched your
eyes after peeling hot peppers, it can be similar to that, so take care.
So now you have made your Thieve’s Oil. Below is a long list of all the things that
you can do with it!
THIEVE’S OIL RECIPES FOR HOME, HEALTH AND PRODUCTS
Here are some of the basic Thieves Oil Recipes and dilutions anyone can make and use.
You can experiment with these to come up with your own Thieves Oil Recipes.
THIEVE’S OIL RECIPE ALL-PURPOSE SPRAY
An all-purpose spray solution for cleaning around the home, and sanitizing indoor air
and eliminating odors.
In a spray bottle, mix 1 drop of Thieve’s Oil for each ounce of water, or for a
stronger solution (my preference), 1 drop for every 1/2 ounce of water.
Add the thieves oil first, then add water (it mixes better that way). Shake vigorously
before each use.
THIEVE’S OIL RECIPE FOR TOPICAL APPLICATION AND MASSAGE
Mix 1 part Thieve’s Oil with 4 parts carrier oil in a clean, dry dispenser bottle.
Massage on the feet (vita flex points), lower back, neck and behind the ears. This is
a dilution that can be used for babies to elderly and all in between. The face, neck
and wrists are more sensitive than the back, chest and feet, so if these areas should
get too warm, rub carrier oil on the spot.
This thieves oil recipe is also excellent for daily use on the feet for healthy immune
support or when your immune system is stressed. Prior to applying the Thieve’s Oil to
your feet, soak them in a warm tub of water (enough to reach the ankle joint) with a
tablespoon (TBS) of Pink Himalayan Salt and 2 TBS apple cider vinegar (ACV, or any
kind if you dont have ACV) for 15-20 minutes, towel off then air dry, and apply the
oil. Before applying the Thieve’s Oil is an excellent opportunity to exfoliate with a
pumice stone and clean and trim your toenails and calluses! I recommend that everyone
do this twice weekly: I do.
USING THIEVE’S OIL IN THE DIFFUSER
Diffusing Thieve’s Oil will freshen and sanitize indoor air and eliminate odors.
Various types of essential oil diffusers have different directions, so follow the
instructions that came with your diffuser.
THIEVE’S OIL RECIPE FOR DIFFUSING
Diffuse 5-10 drops of Thieve’s Oil for 15 minutes three or four times a day in an
essential oil diffuser. This can help clean the air while adding a nice fragrance. As
your family breathes in the oils it will help to support healthy lung, sinus and
respiratory functions. Washing your hands frequently with soap and water and then
rubbing your hands together with Thieve’s Oil in coconut oil as a hand cream is good
practice for stopping the spread of germs. The greatest danger we are to ourselves is
when we rub our face, nose, mouth and eyes, which brings contagion directly in contact
with our mucous membranes and respiratory system.
FOR SERIOUS IMMUNE SUPPORT RUN THE DIFFUSER CONTINUOUSLY FOR A FEW HOURS. Diffusing
essential oils – especially Thieve’s Oil – gives our immune systems the support it
needs to stay strong. Increasing the proportion of Lemon Essential Oil along with the
Thieves Oil in the diffuser for extra support for healthy lung and sinus functions,
especially during the colder months.
THIEVE’S OIL FOR THE SICK OR IMMUNO-COMPROMISED
While they sleep at night, run the diffuser in the bedroom of anyone who whom you feel
could benefit from extra support. This gets a continuous flow of the oils into the
lungs and sinuses, and is highly supportive.

FOUR THIEVE’S HEALTH TONIC VINEGAR, ALSO CALLED MARSEILLES VINEGAR REMEDY
Four Thieve’s vinegar is a concoction of vinegar infused with herbs, spices or garlic
that was believed to protect users from the plague. The recipe for this vinegar has
almost as many variations as its legend.
– Insect repellent by mixing 1/4 cup of the vinegar in an 8-ounce spray bottle and fill the rest with water. Spray on skin, clothes, etc. when in heavily insect-infested areas., store in the refridgerator to minimize the vinegar smell and make more refreshing.
– Soak or topical spray for foot or nail fungus.
– Illness – the Vinegar of the Four Thieves is very helpful in quick recovery. Adults can take 1 TBS several times a day, diluted in water, and children can take 1 teaspoon several times a day, also well-diluted in water/juice or herbal tea.
– Room Disinfectant/Freshener, dilute 1:1 ratio with water and put in a spray bottle to make a potent disinfectant to be used on surfaces or sprayed in the air.
Dandruff – Diluted and used on the scalp, this remedy is also said to be effective against dandruff.
Cleaning – This vinegar makes an effective natural disinfectant spray for use in house cleaning.
FOUR THIEVE’S MARSEILLES VINEGAR INGREDIENTS
2 TBSP dried thyme
2 TBSP dried rosemary
2 TBSP dried sage
2 TBSP dried lavender
2 TBSP dried mint
4-8 cloves garlic (minced, optional)
4 cups organic apple cider vinegar with “the Mother”
In a large glass jar, combine all the dried herbs and garlic, if using.
Pour the vinegar over the herbs and garlic and seal tightly. The vinegar is strong enough to corrode some metal lids, so in this case, consider putting plastic wrap or a plastic bag on top and then putting the lid on.
Leave in a cool, dark, place for 6-8 weeks, shaking daily if possible.
After 6-8 weeks, strain the herbs out using a small strainer and store the tonic in smaller jars for easy use.
I hope this is helpful to all.
