How did the lone wolf painting by Kowalski become so popular in the US?
“The austere and cold imagery of the Lone Wolf painting is an illustration of the coldness of the world without a connectedness to God and to our fellowman. Subconsciously, ignorantly, or willfully we choose to live life in a way that leaves us “out in the cold”. It is written in The Bible, “A voice is heard on the bare heights, the weeping and the supplications of the sons of Israel, because they have perverted their way , they have forgotten the Lord their God.” (Jeremiah 3:21) But, the wonderful news is that in the next verse, God says “Return, O faithless sons, I will heal your faithlessness.” And the people answer, “Behold we come to Thee; for Thou art the Lord our God.” (Jeremiah 3:22) Likewise, Jesus Christ invites us… “Let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who wishes take the water of life without cost.”
The “Lone Wolf” is an image of the darkness of man’s soul. Come to the light of One who loves you infinitely and come in from out of the cold.
Thor304: I believe the lone wolf is meant to portray ones strength during solitude and change. The wolf is standing above cabins of some “pack” which is simply a barrier. This new change of his world makes it more difficult to find his place. He speaks to our soul and to those who do not understand that all beings, even the most savage,are entitled to acceptance, compassion, and purpose. Standing high on a hill as his sharpened mind must acquiesce from his own safe distance. The wolf may be a father, or maybe a mother. Neither are afraid of death, for it is inevitable, but mindful and most intelligently watchful of what is and what has been already. Yes, I believe the lone wolf is a symbol of hope, the importance of that hope is one we all should solemnly try to comprehend.”
The last seven years’ increasing confirmation of the TEOTWAKI I’d precogged at age nineteen truly has made me that lone wolf viewing the town from a distance. I don’t know who has my copy now, but in our early (married) twenties, Jamie came home from the Edmondson Flea Market with this print, and put it on the kitchen wall next to the stove. When I saw it after returning from my sunday afternoon organic chemistry study group, he told me he got it for me because I am like that lone wolf overlooking everyone I love and take care of. Even in 1984 (how prophetic), Jamie innately gnew the mindblowing realities on his deepest levels, articulated in his ways. He was set apart too, earlier than I was.
